A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO

Tansi, Edlánat’e, Hello!

Welcome to Northlands College! Northlands College is dedicated to serving the educational needs of northern Saskatchewan residents. Situated on the traditional territories of Treaties 5, 6, 8, and 10, and the homelands of the Métis Peoples, our institution spans approximately 321,163 square kilometers, covering 49% of Saskatchewan’s area. We are committed to supporting our students on their educational journeys.

As a student-centered post-secondary institution, Northlands College offers a diverse range of high-quality programs, courses, and continuing education opportunities. We are dedicated to aligning your goals with challenging and rewarding educational and training pathways. With small class sizes, a supportive learning environment, dedicated instructors and staff, we are here to help you navigate your post-secondary goals and aspirations.

Northlands College has a proud history of delivering high-quality education and training programs that meet the development and employment needs of Northerners. We strive to enhance social and economic conditions, prepare Northerners for participation in the labor market, and assist industry in meeting its labor force requirements. We provide an array of programs in basic education, technical and trades, and university, offered through our four campus locations in Buffalo Narrows, La Ronge, Air Ronge, and Creighton. Additionally, we have several satellite centers across northern Saskatchewan to meet the needs and demands of our communities and industry partners.

At Northlands College, we view ourselves as more than an educational institution; we are catalysts of social and economic change. We continue to grow to meet the labor force demands of northern industry and address the educational and training needs of the people of the north. Our goal is to empower Northerners to not only participate in but also lead the economic and social development of the north, this province, and beyond, with confidence, pride, and success.

On behalf of Northlands College staff, faculty, and Board of Governors, we wish you all the best.

Michael McCormick

President & CEO of Northlands College

Recruitment, Hiring, and Workforce Commitment

Northlands College is committed to fair, transparent, and equitable recruitment and hiring practices that support workforce sustainability, reconciliation, and northern community development. All recruitment and selection processes are conducted in accordance with College policy, the applicable SGEU collective agreement, and privacy legislation, and are guided by the principles of confidentiality, integrity, and merit.

All members of hiring committees, including both union and management representatives, are required to maintain strict confidentiality regarding applicant information and committee deliberations. This obligation protects the privacy of candidates and ensures the integrity and credibility of the recruitment process.

Hiring committees are responsible for ensuring that recruitment and selection decisions are fair, consistent, and unbiased. This includes the use of clear and consistent evaluation criteria, the active mitigation of unconscious bias, and decision‑making that is transparent, evidence‑based, and aligned with the required skills, qualifications, and competencies of the position. The College values internal career development and is committed to providing fair and equitable consideration to qualified internal candidates.

Northlands College seeks candidates who meet the qualifications of the position and demonstrate the skills, experience, and professional competencies required for success. In alignment with the College’s commitment to reconciliation, Indigenous workforce participation, and northern capacity‑building, priority consideration will be given to qualified candidates who self‑declare Indigenous ancestry and/or Northern Saskatchewan residency, where skills, qualifications, and suitability for the position are met, and where permitted under applicable legislation and collective agreements.

To support transparency and equitable access to employment opportunities, the College is committed to advertising all job vacancies, including both in‑scope (as defined by the applicable collective agreement) and out‑of‑scope positions. Postings will be communicated broadly and consistently to ensure employees and the public are informed of available opportunities and the processes used to fill them.

Beyond recruitment, Northlands College is committed to strengthening human relationships within northern communities by fostering a workplace culture grounded in respect, collaboration, and shared purpose. Our people are central to our success, and we believe that meaningful relationships among staff, students, and communities are essential to delivering relevant, impactful education across the North.

As technology continues to evolve, the College embraces innovation to enhance – rather than replace human connection. We are committed to staying current with technological advancements and applying them thoughtfully to enrich learning, expand access, and strengthen services, while remaining grounded in providing an exceptional student experience.

We prioritize the growth, development, and well‑being of our team by providing an enriching and supportive environment that encourages learning, adaptability, and shared ownership. Before considering workforce reductions or role eliminations, the College is committed to exploring opportunities for skill development, redeployment, and organizational growth that enable our people to evolve alongside the institution.

Through these commitments, Northlands College and its hiring committees work collaboratively to uphold best practices, foster trust and accountability, and ensure confidence in the fairness, transparency, and sustainability of our workforce decisions, today and into the future.
