Shaping Careers – Northlands College introduces New Health Studies Diploma

Northlands College is proud to announce the launch of a two-year Diploma in Health Studies, designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career in the healthcare and human services sector. This program offers a unique combination of in-person, remote, and online learning opportunities to ensure that learners from all locations in Northern Saskatchewan can participate.


The program includes courses such as Indigenous Studies, Indigenous Health Studies, English, Kinesiology, Psychology, Sociology, Biology, and Statistics, and is partnered with the University of Regina and the First Nations University of Canada. Upon completion, learners will have the option to ladder into the four-year bachelor’s degree program offered on-campus at the University of Regina with a variety of distance delivery mode options available to the community.


On the launch of the program, Karsten Henriksen, President & CEO of Northlands College, emphasized the need of learners building a foundation in health care and human services sector, “The launch of the Health Studies Diploma at Northlands College is a significant step towards enhancing the skillset of Northern Saskatchewan residents. The Health Studies program provides multiple pathways to multiple career destinations, and we are proud to partner with the University of Regina and the First Nations University of Canada to bring new and relevant university programming to the north. We believe that this program will empower learners to shape their future and create a healthier society for all.”


According to Kory Morvik, Director of University Studies at Northlands College, “The need for more career opportunities in Northern Saskatchewan is crucial, especially as the economy grows and new sectors are developed. The health sector is a critical one, and the Health Studies diploma is an excellent starting place for learners interested in pursuing a career in this field.”


He adds, “A healthier society can only be shaped better if its members have the right knowledge set. Developing this particular skill set about Health Studies in Northern Saskatchewan empowers its residents to pursue career opportunities across Canada or North America, giving them the competitive edge, they require.”


The Health Studies program offers multiple pathways to multiple career destinations in the health and human services sector, including policy development, health promotion, knowledge translation, management, and programming. It is a good option for learners who are interested in the health field but unsure about which pathway to take.


Enrollment for the fall term is now open, and interested learners can apply online at www.northlandscollege.ca. We are thrilled to partner with the University of Regina and the First Nations University of Canada to bring new and relevant university programming to the north.
