Empowering Future Nurses: Northlands College Opens Advanced Nursing Lab

[Air Ronge, SK, September 25, 2024] – Northlands College is thrilled to announce the opening of its newly designed nursing faculty and cutting-edge lab at the River Campus. While classrooms and labs for our BSN Learners continue to operate across our Rock Campus and Île-à-la-Crosse locations, this new facility at the River Campus is tailored to provide learners with advanced, hands-on training in a modern, purpose-built environment.

The new nursing faculty space offers several key features that will elevate the learning experience for current and future nursing learners:

  • Integrated Learning Environment: This facility includes nursing instructor offices, a fully equipped lab, and the latest technology for practical training, all within a purposefully designed space designed to support an immersive and efficient learning process. It offers learners direct access to simulated hospital settings and high-tech resources, creating a comprehensive environment for skill development.
  • State-of-the-Art Lab: Designed to simulate a hospital ward, the new lab offers hands-on learning opportunities with interactive patient care stations and advanced simulation mannequins. Additionally, the lab features the latest medical software and technology, providing learners with real-world training. A Neat Board for online communication and virtual learning, along with opportunities for virtual reality experiences and telehealth, ensures that learners stay connected with modern healthcare practices.
  • Sustainability Focus: With sustainability in mind, the facility incorporates energy-efficient LED lighting, ergonomic workspaces, and an advanced security key card system, aligning with the College’s ongoing commitment to environmentally responsible infrastructure.
  • Versatile Instructional Space: The lab is equipped to accommodate diverse teaching styles, allowing instructors to enhance their teaching methods and offer a dynamic learning environment for learners.

“We are thrilled to open this new space after a busy summer of construction,” said Karsten Henriksen, President & CEO of Northlands College. “This facility is a welcome addition that facilitates the educational and career goals of northern learners. It is part of our strategic plan to develop facilities that benefit both our learners and the communities we serve. The state-of-the-art resources in the new lab ensure that our nursing learners are well-prepared to meet the demands of Canada’s healthcare sector. From interactive patient care stations to advanced simulation technology, this lab provides the best learning platform for our nursing learners, helping them gain the hands-on experience needed to excel in their professional practice.”

The new Northlands College Nursing Lab marks a significant step forward for the College’s nursing programs, providing learners with a cutting-edge learning environment that mirrors real-world healthcare settings. The inclusion of advanced simulation mannequins, telehealth technology, and virtual learning opportunities enhances the depth of training offered.
