Northlands College Celebrates Grand Opening of Culture Centre at Creighton Campus

Creighton, SK – [Nov 9, 2023] Northlands College proudly unveils the Culture Centre at its Creighton Campus, a significant milestone in its commitment to celebrating and preserving the rich heritage of Northern Saskatchewan’s Indigenous cultures. The Culture Centre stands as the heart and soul of these communities, embodying Northlands College’s dedication to Indigenous values and the pivotal role Northerners play in the institution’s strategic plan.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with a heartfelt opening prayer led by elders, setting the tone for a celebration deeply rooted in tradition. The atmosphere was blessed by a pipe ceremony, prayers from elders and songs from the Northern Lights Women Singers. Dignitaries from Creighton, Cumberland house, Denare beach, and Flin Flon joined the event, highlighting the collaborative spirit between Northlands College and the local community.

Karsten Henriksen, President & CEO of Northlands College, highlighted the importance of Indigenization, Cultures and Language in the era of Truth and Reconciliation. He remarked, “At Northlands College, our foundation is built on the teachings of our elders and the profound wisdom embedded in our culture. Our commitment to learners is shaped by the principles that have been passed down through generations.”

Henriksen emphasized Northlands College’s role in Indigenization, stating, “We are proud to lead the way in integrating Indigenous perspectives into every facet of our institution. The Culture Centre stands as a testament to our dedication to preserving and promoting the unique heritage of the Northern communities we are privileged to serve.”

To be deemed qualified, an applicant must meet the minimum entrance requirements and complete the application procedures which includes providing all required documents.

      • • If currently enrolled in high school, you must submit a Statement of Grades form.
