Media Release – Northlands College Elder’s Advisory Council Members

Air Ronge, SK — Northlands College Elder’s Advisory Council members

Northlands College is pleased to announce the recent appointments of five members to our newly established Elders Advisory Council: Ann Lafleur, Beauval, Thompson McKenzie, Grandmother’s Bay, William Morin, Pelican Narrows, Henry Charles, Montreal Lake and Freddie Throassie, Black Lake.

The interest to the council was immense and very much appreciated. This confirmed that the citizens of northern Saskatchewan are interested in being part of our institution and our continued work around Indigenization.   The council will provide guidance and knowledge to our institution in the areas of language and culture. The council will also work closely with our Board of Directors and our office of Indigenous Initiatives to reinforce our College’s Vision, Mission and Outcomes.

Northlands College Board of Directors Chairperson stated: ”As a Board we are looking forward to the community feedback and recommendations of the Elders. The guidance and teachings of the Elders will benefit our continued commitment to reconciliation in northern Saskatchewan.”

Northlands College President & CEO stated: ”I am very pleased to see this initiative come to fruition and excited to gain the knowledge and individual perspective that each Elder will bring. This information will help us make the best possible decisions around policies, procedures and programming that meets the needs of students in northern Saskatchewan.”
