Mental Health & Wellness – Year 1

In this two-year Mental Health and Wellness diploma program, learners learn to apply Indigenous and Western-based holistic approaches to healing and addictions counselling. In the first year, learners focus on internal, holistic, growth and become familiar with the role of a mental health counsellor. Topics of study include:

  • Interpersonal Communication
  • Youth Care
  • Indigenous Healing
  • Therapy for Families

Learners will participate in two four-week field placements in which out-of-town travel with extended stays may be required. Graduates may find employment as social and community service workers in social services and government agencies, mental health agencies, group homes, shelters, substance abuse centres, schools, correctional facilities, and other establishments.

  • Current Criminal Record Check (CRC) with Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
  • 2 character and sobriety references
  • Proof of updated vaccinations
  • *Learners must meet the minimum CRC/VSC & Immunization criteria set out by the practicum agency.
